The Maryvale Girls Volleyball Team compiled an overall record of 17-1. Maryvale was the ECIC Section 6 Division 3 undefeated division champions with a 12-0 run in the division, a perfect regular season. This was the first time in 15 years that the girls program had won the division and also the second time in the history of the program that they had done so undefeated.
The girls dominated all their opponents during the regular season. The girls defeated their first 7 opponents in 3 sets, they play best of 5. It wasn’t until their 7th match that an opposing team finally won a set against Maryvale and this was the first time an opponent scored more than 19 points on them. During the regular season Maryvale only had three matches go more than 3 sets.
The girls participated in the Sweet Home Tournament making it to the quarter finals and losing to Alden 35-32. They also participated and won the Cleveland Hill Tournament for a second year in a row. The girls went 7-1 in pool play and defeated Cleveland Hill in the finals.
The Maryvale Girls obtained votes twice for the Girls Volleyball Small School Rankings, but never broke into the top 10, although they were the only undefeated team of that season not to do so.
After Maryvale won the division, they were seeded #1 in Class B out of 16 schools. They defeated Depew in the quarter finals and defeated Cheektowaga Central in the semi-finals. Maryvale went on to the Section 6 Class B Finals where they were handed their only loss of the season by Iroquois.
The team roster consisted of Seniors: Brianna Henry (captain), Michelle Richardson (captain), Shannon Mowry (captain), Jennifer Zindle, Zareya Moore, Brianna Gontarek. Juniors: Emily Raczynski, Jaelah George, Carly Cross, Alexa Hoiensahl, Haley Graczyk, Hoai Phan, Makayla McLeod and Sarah Wise. Sophomore: Julia Carter (captain).
The following players went on to have a collegiate career in Woman’s Volleyball: Michelle Richardson, Shannon Mowry, Carly Cross, Alexa Hoiensahl and Julia Carter. Emily Raczynski, Shannon Mowry and Jennifer Zindle would go on to coach volleyball at Maryvale.
The team was honored with the following post season awards: Brianna Henry and Julia Carter were voted to All-WNY Honorable Mention and All ECIC 2nd Team. Michelle Richardson and Shannon Mowry were selected to Division III 1stTeam ECIC. Emily Raczynski and Jaelah George were selected to Division III 2nd Team ECIC. Maryvale was honored with the ECIC Division III Team Sportsmanship Award and Coach Tina Raczynski was named the Bee Group Newpapers Coach of the Year.
