CHRIsTIE McGEE-Ross (2020)

Christie is a graduate of the Class of 2020. Christie’s time at Maryvale High School was packed with athletic achievements, as she played three varsity sports. In eighth grade, she stepped up to varsity softball and was recognized as the Rookie of the Year by her coach. She also made it onto the ECIC 2nd Team Allstars for her division that year.

As a freshman, she added varsity volleyball and basketball to her list of accomplishments. In basketball, she received the Heart and Hustle Award and earned a spot on the ECIC 2nd Team Allstars again. For softball, she was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the Peter Odrebina Memorial Tournament. Christie also got on the New York State 6th Team, the ALL WNY Large Schools 1st team, and the All ECIC 1st Team.

In her sophomore year, she was named to the ECIC Division III 2nd Team Allstars in volleyball and reached the sectional finals with her team. In basketball, she scored a 1st team ECIC honor, made another All-Tournament team, and was named Team MVP. For softball, she was recognized as an ECIC 1st Team All-Star and received the Cheektowaga Bee Athlete of the Year award for 2017-18.

Christie's junior year was just as impressive. In volleyball, she made the ECIC Division III First Team Allstars and was co-Team MVP. On the basketball court, she averaged a double-double in points and rebounds, was named Buffalo News Athlete of the Week, and again made the 1st Team ECIC Allstar list. In softball that spring, she was named to the New York State 4th Team Allstars and repeated her All WNY 1st Team and ECIC 1st Team honors, as well as being on the All Cheektowaga Bee 1st Team and receiving the prestigious Lady Flyer Award.

During her senior year in volleyball, she earned a Division III 1st Team Allstar spot, along with the ECIC Division III Sportsmanship Award and Team MVP honors. Her senior basketball season was her best yet, as she became the third player in Maryvale history to join the 1,000-point club and was named Team MVP again. Sadly, Christie couldn’t play her final softball season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, she wrapped up her softball career at Maryvale with an impressive .551 batting average, 115 hits, 91 runs, 20 home runs, 2 grand slams, 97 RBIs, and 68 stolen bases. Her outstanding performance and dedication in softball earned her a full athletic scholarship to play Division 1 softball at Canisius University.

Christie's success continued at Canisius University for softball. She wrapped up her senior year with an awesome batting average of .395, scoring 41 runs (T-5th in school history), getting 51 hits, hitting 3 triples, 10 home runs (T-4th in school history), and driving in 30 RBIs. During her amazing career, Christie hit a home run in 4 straight games, and in the MAAC Championship Game against Siena, she went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Because of her great performance at Canisius, she was picked for the 1st Team ALL MAAC unanimously, earned a spot on the NFCA All-Great Lakes Region Second Team, and was named Canisius Female Athlete of the Year.

Christie graduated from Canisius University in May of 2024 with a Bachelor of Mathematics and Economics. She is currently pursing for her Master’s in Data Analytics. Christie is currently a Canisius softball graduate assistant coach and resides in Cheektowaga.
