David male - Booster

For thirty years, David Male’s dedication and enthusiasm for the arts and athletics alike, stimulated the minds and souls of thousands of Maryvale High School students.

David served the United States heroically during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 earning two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. After his discharge from the military in 1955 he enrolled at Canisius College. While at Canisius, David married his wife Janet and in 1958 they were blessed with their daughters Debra and Michelle. David earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1959 and his Master’s Degree in Education in 1961.

He began teaching English at Maryvale in 1958 and shortly thereafter immersed himself in numerous school activities. David directed school plays, worked with Joe Stewart and the Maryvale Choral and began the first Maryvale live radio show broadcast, during lunch, with David Cambrini as host. It wasn’t long before David’s enthusiasm for all that was Maryvale spread to the athletic field. He became the scorekeeper and the Voice of Maryvale at all football and basketball games from 1959-1989. David even became the cheerleader coach from 1962-1964 designing new uniforms, new cheers and most notably, changing Maryvale’s mascot from Snoopy to Pegasus. David spent countless hours working for the benefit of all Maryvale students and truly led by example when it came time to show his “Flyer Pride”!

After retiring from teaching in 1989, David became a Certified International wine judge and Chairs the world’s third largest wine competition. David and his wife Janet currently reside in East Amherst, New York.

Thank you so much for your “Flyer Pride” then and now David! Congratulations!!
