Following his service in the US Navy and the Department of Defense, Dennis Chiari transitioned to the National Security Agency where he worked from 1966 to 1999, where he rose to the civilian equivalent rank of a 2-Star General and defined the National Mission in Cryptology.
In 1996 he received NSA’s National Intelligence Medal of Achievement for distinguished service, innovation and leadership in his field. Joining only 80 others in NSA’s history, in 1997 he was inducted into the National Security Agency Cryptologic Hall of Honor.
Currently under construction on NSA’s Fort Mead headquarters in Maryland is an 8-story building that will house 3,000 employees. In recognition of his contributions to the defense of this country, it is to be named The Dennis M. Chiari Center.
