jayson stark (1993)

Jayson Stark attended Maryvale High School from 1989 to 1993. During that time, he participated in multiple sports at the varsity level; Volleyball, Tennis, and Track as well as playing in the Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Chorale earning him the “Most Versatile” nomination for his senior class. His most notable accomplishments, however, took place on the volleyball court. Stark was a starter for three years on the varsity team, culminating with his nomination as MVP and the team going undefeated (12-0) and winning the ECIC Division III title his senior year. That team had recently been inducted into the Wall of Fame in 2015.

Jayson Stark started his varsity career with an ECIC Honorable Mention team nomination his sophomore year along with being awarded the team’s “Best Passer”. The following two years Stark co-captained the Maryvale volleyball team in both his junior and senior years. Stark went on to gain ECIC 1st team All Star his junior year and continuing this success winning selection to All tournament teams at the Eden Invitational, Lakeshore, and Williamsville South Tournaments, Mizuno Senior All-Star Team, and finally being placed on the All WNY All-Star Team his senior year.

Stark also competed with the Eden Club volleyball team during the off season all four years and was part of the 1992 US Volleyball Association Junior Olympic East Coast Championship team appearing in the January 1993 issue of Volleyball Monthly. The team went on to rank 13thin the National Junior Olympics that year. He was also named an alternate member on the Western Region Men’s Empire State Team his senior year.

Outside of volleyball, Stark was also involved in Band, Orchestra, and Chorale and was a four time All Erie County Band first chair playing saxophone.

After graduating from Maryvale, Stark continued his volleyball career for NJIT, starting his first 3 years and earning scholar athlete honors all four years. During his freshman year, Stark was instrumental in getting NJIT to the NCAA EIVA Division I Regional Quarterfinals against future NCAA Division I National Champion Penn State (first East Coast team to win that title). The following two years, NJIT went to the final four at the NCAA Division III Championships. Stark graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering and continued his education years later receiving an MBA from his alma mater.

Recently, Stark has been re-engaged in his volleyball roots and has been heavily involved in the institution and funding of the first ever women’s volleyball program (Varsity and JV) for Manasquan High School (New Jersey) starting in 2019 where his daughter currently plays and will obtain varsity letters in the future.

Jayson lives in Manasquan, NJ with his lovely wife Silvia and their daughter, Brooke.
