Joradn nosal (2018)

During his tenure at Maryvale, Jordan Nosal developed into one of the most dominant volleyball players to wear the Maryvale uniform. Jordan would graduate as the school’s all-time leader in Kills, Blocks, Aces and Digs. Nosal also became one of the finest leaders the program has produced.

Jordan is a graduate of Maryvale’s Class of 2018. His love for the sport of volleyball started in elementary school and continues today. He was initially inspired by his older brother to pursue the sport at the age of seven. At 10 years old he began club volleyball for Eden’s Volleyball Club as a member of the 12u team.

It was In seventh grade, when Jordan first put on the Marvale maroon and white. No one knew this was the beginning of his record setting volleyball career for Maryvale. As a seventh grader, surrounded by teammates and opponents who were in high school, Jordan looked out of place on the court. This quickly changed once the match started. Everyone quickly figured out that the little “kid” on the Flyers could flat out play. Jordan was the starting Libero on the JV team as a 7th grader. It was during this season, Jordan realized the need for leadership on the court.

Despite not being the floor captain, he brought energy and juice to the court, along with some pretty impressive ball control skills. This is the season Jordan “The Leader” started to develop. At this young age, Nosal brought 2 years of club volleyball experience to the Flyers. Everytime he stepped on the court, his knowledge grew and his skills improved. His teammates and coaches took notice of this.

Despite not having a jersey that fit him, in 8th grade he was promoted to the Varsity team as a libero where he got to play with his brother, Tyler, who was a senior at the time. Fans and opposing teams were shocked when they realized that Jordan was able to keep up with the older players at only 12 years old and a height of 5’1 in his oversized jersey. Opposing teams often targeted Jordan since they underestimated his capabilities, this didn’t hold the team back as Jordan welcomed the challenge. The Flyers Varsity Volleyball team ended the season with a winning record.

Once he got to high school, Jordan hit a growth spurt and changed positions. In 9th grade he became the starting outside hitter, where he became a fixture for the next four years. Jordan led his team to winning records each of his four seasons. The Flyers made a sectional finals appearance in his junior year and claimed the ECIC Division 3 title from Eden, a divisional rival, for the first time in 10 years.

Even through the constant challenge of a changing roster, Maryvale’s volleyball program was successful and was consistently ranked in the top 10 in WNY. Jordan became the leader on and off the court. He recruited classmates, who had never played the sport before, but were solid athletes, to help round out the team.

Through his four years Jordan stacked up accolades and honors. This began with an ECIC Division 3 1st team All-Star selections in grades 9 and 10. Continued with an All-WNY 2nd team selection in 11th grade and finished with an All-WNY 1st team selection in his senior year. Jordan was nominated for the WNY Player of the Year honors and finished in the top 3 in voting. During his Junior and Senior seasons, Nosal was selected to the All-tournament team or was named tournament MVP in all 7 tournaments Maryvale played in. Jordan was also named Maryvale team MVP all four of his seasons.

While playing club/travel volleyball, his volleyball success thrived outside of Maryvale. Jordan and his teams won several national qualifier tournaments and made appearances at nationals while consistently being ranked top 30 in the country and even as high as top 15 one year.

Jordan also had success in the classroom, earning a GPA ranking in the top 40 for his class, making him a scholar athlete. He achieved a mastery in science and was inducted into the National Honor Society. He also received the Maryvale Athletic Wall of Fame scholarship in 2018.

Jordan received Athletic Scholarship offers to attend college, but decided to focus on his

education instead. He graduated from the State University at Buffalo with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. While at UB, Jordan led the club volleyball team to a second place finish at Club Nationals his freshman year. He is currently working as a Field Service Engineer in Syracuse, NY for a worldwide medical device manufacturer.
